Is hostile design a real issue?

Short answer is not really.

Long answer, Recently I decided to read a Newsela article portraying the concept of "hostile design." The gist of the idea is that hostile restricts your actions in a public area due to the way structures are designed. A British artist by the name of, Stuart Semple has began this campaign called "Design Crime" he has stickers to point out structures that contain "hostile design." For me I think this is somewhat absurd because many things (especially government property) are designed to be restrictive and for one purpose a good example is; roads. Roads designed so you do not drive your car where ever you want (through people's lawns or on private property) they do this by having signs, fences, markings, and speed bumps. Long story short, design has been used to control your behavior for a really long time and this artist starting to make an outcry about it is kind of preposterous.

What do you think?
